Make passport and ID photos at home

Photo booths and print shops charge a surprising amount for a few small pictures. With this passport photo maker online you can take the photo with your webcam or phone (or upload one you already have), crop it to the exact size for your country, and download either a single digital photo or a 4×6 inch sheet ready to print at any photo kiosk.

Supported sizes

  • United States · 2×2 in: 51 × 51 mm, head 25–35 mm.
  • United Kingdom · 35×45 mm: 35 × 45 mm, head 29–34 mm.
  • EU / Schengen · 35×45 mm: 35 × 45 mm, head 32–36 mm.
  • India · 35×45 mm: 35 × 45 mm, head 25–35 mm.
  • Canada · 50×70 mm: 50 × 70 mm, head 31–36 mm.

How to take a good passport photo

  1. Stand about half a metre in front of a plain, light wall.
  2. Face a window or a soft light so there are no shadows on your face or behind you.
  3. Look straight at the camera with a neutral expression, mouth closed and eyes open.
  4. Remove glasses, hats and headphones unless your country allows them.
  5. Have someone else take the photo with the back camera of a phone if you can, as it will be sharper.

Printing

The print sheet is exactly 6 × 4 inches at 300 DPI. Print it at 100% / actual size, never “fit to page”, or the photos will come out the wrong size. Cut along the thin grey lines.

An important note

We give you the correct dimensions and head guides, but we can’t guarantee acceptance. Authorities check things a tool can’t: how recent the photo is, expression, lighting and background. Check the official rules for your passport, visa or ID card first.

FAQ

Passport Photo Maker FAQ

Will this photo be accepted for my passport?

The tool produces the correct size and head-position guides for each preset, but every authority has its own rules on background, lighting, expression, glasses and how recent the photo is. Always check the official requirements for your country before submitting.

How do I print passport photos at home or at a shop?

Download the 4×6 inch print sheet and print it at actual size (100%, no “fit to page”) on 6×4 photo paper, or upload it to any photo-printing kiosk or online print service. Then cut along the guide lines.

What background should I use?

Most countries require a plain, light, evenly lit background, often white or off-white. Stand about half a metre in front of a light wall, face a window, and avoid shadows behind you.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Capturing, cropping and building the print sheet all happen on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
