Make a time-lapse with your webcam

Sunsets, clouds rolling by, a plant opening, a cake rising, a painting from blank canvas to finished: time-lapses turn slow change into something mesmerising. This time-lapse camera online captures one frame at a time from your webcam or phone and stitches them into a video when you’re done, with no app and no account.

Choosing an interval

  • 0.5–1 s: fast action like people, traffic or cooking.
  • 2–5 s: clouds, crafts, tidying a room, a work session.
  • 10–60 s: sunsets, plants, weather and slow changes over hours.

The estimate next to the controls tells you how long the finished video will be at 30 frames per second.

Tips for a smooth time-lapse

Keep the camera completely still, using a stand, tripod or a stack of books. Plug in your laptop or phone. Keep this tab open in the foreground. Avoid auto-exposure flicker by keeping the lighting steady. And for long captures, use a longer interval so memory use stays reasonable, since each frame is kept until the video is made.

Want to catch movement instead of slow change? Try the motion detector, which snaps a photo whenever something moves.

FAQ

Time-lapse Camera FAQ

How does the time-lapse camera work?

It takes one photo at the interval you choose, for example every 2 seconds, and stores it on your device. When you stop, those frames are played back at 30 frames per second and recorded into a video, so hours become seconds.

How long will my video be?

Divide the number of frames by 30. For example, an hour at one frame every 2 seconds is 1,800 frames, which makes a 60-second video.

Do I need to keep the tab open?

Yes. Keep this tab open and visible, and keep your device plugged in. The page asks your browser to keep the screen awake while capturing, but closing the tab or letting the computer sleep stops the time-lapse.

Is anything uploaded?

No. Frames are stored in your tab’s memory and the video is created on your device.
